This weekend was the opening round of the Eastern Canada Ice racing season. Everybody was really looking forward to this race. The CMRC Quebec Association received lots of inscriptions and despite the cold weather, spectators’ attendance was excellent. KTM Canada rider Maxime Sylvestre was racing in the 450 Pro and Pro-Am classes on a 450 SX-F prepared by Picotte Performance. Maxime had really good races and crossed the finish line in second both times just a few second behind last season’s Ice Racing Champion Dominic Beaulac. Read Article

2007 Race Report No. 08 -    Alberta Offroad Series Round # 9 – Grizzly XC -THE IRONMAN!!

Alberta Offroad Series Round # 9 – Grizzly XC -THE IRONMAN!!

The Grizzly Cross Country was help September 16, 2007 in Mclean Creek, Alberta.  The race was organized by our local club (
www.RMDRA.com) and had been in the works since spring.  November 2006 saw a massive windstorm hit this area, and pretty much destroy 90% of the trails with heavy deadfall from the storm.  An army of volunteers spent countless hours clearing trails, not only to resume recreation in this area, but for this particular race.

Racehorse Creek – National Harescramble – Round #1

By: Shane Cuthbertson

June.6.2007 Raced at 1st Motocross of 2007

Not too much to report lately.

I did race my 1st motocross on May 26/27 at Raymond, Alberta.  This race was a qualifier for the 2007 Western Canadian Amateur National (WCAN) also held at the Raymond track June 28-30th.

My intent for this race was to feel the MX scene out, and see if I would be interested in competing at the WCAN.  This was my 4th ride on the new 2007 KTM 450 SXF which I am totally stoked on for MX racing.  It just works so well!

Anyway, I entered the GP Pro/Am and Vet Master races on the Saturday and planned to race 250 Intermediate on Sunday.  GP Pro/Am was basically just a warm up and my goal was to finish inside the top 10.  Vet Master is the class I was pumped about, as top 3 is within my capabilities.

GP Pro/Am was a huge class with 35 Pro / Intermediate riders.  1st moto result was 14th; not bad but I knew I could do better.  Vet Master 1st moto result was 2nd behind the legendary Pete DeGraaf.  He is 20 years older than me, but man can that guy ride a dirt bike!  He is definitely fast at his Raymond home track, or anywhere for that matter!

GP Pro/Am 2nd moto was good until I crashed with ½ lap remaining.  I was running 10th and then boom….  I hit the deck, knocked myself out for a couple minutes, and cannot remember the incident.  A quick trip to the hospital and a clean bill of health had me out of there in no time.  A little scary (especially for my wife and 4 yr old boy), but all is good.  Much thanks to the Raymond crew (Lorin Gaudet and Mrs. DeGraaf) who were great in helping my wife keep her sanity

So, I have been taking care of a minor concussion for the past 2 weeks and ready to get out there and start riding again.  I do plan to race the WCAN, as I had a great time up until my little get off.  Unfortunately, I did miss out on the infamous “Moose Run” in Chicago, Illinois, which I planned to attend on June 3rd.  Maybe next year.  It looked ugly which is exactly what I like!!

Next race is Cornergrass, June 23/24th!  Check out the new website (www.cornergrass.com).  I am really stoked for this one!  I have heard a lot of exciting plans for this race, so be sure to mark it on the calendar.  Trust me, it will be worth your while

May.1.2007 2007 Race Report No. 01 Season Opener – Mixed Results…..

The first round of the Alberta CMRC Off-Road series kicked off April 29, 2007.  The ‘Sharples Hare scramble’ is generally well attended and this year saw 20 Pro’s battling it out on the very fast and rough circuit.

Several of Alberta’s proven top off-road riders including Shane Cuthbertson, Jason Schrage, Nick Schrage, Dan Watt, Marty Halmazna, and Jared Thomas were in attendance.  In addition, Pro Motocrossers Julian Cerny and Robin Dohlman were present and certainly made things interesting on the MX oriented course...............

April.4.2007

Well, we have been getting typical ‘Easter’ weather lately.  As soon as the terra firma thaws and I put rubber on the bike, good ol’ Mother Nature unleashes another cold snap with lots of snow to top it off.  The joys of living in Canada - thank goodness for spiked tires.

Picked up my off-road race bike (’07 KTM 250SX) and am currently testing / prepping for the first race in 3 weeks time.  I am pretty stoked with this bike and feel it was definitely the right choice for my off-road weapon.  Stay tuned for pictures…

Finalized my sponsorship agreements and am really happy with the awesome support that I have received.  Check out the links to these companies for more information.  Every product shown is one that I have researched, tested, or raced with prior to obtaining the support of these companies.  How’s that for confidence in your equipment!!

Check back in the next couple of weeks for further updates.  Should have some pictures and helmet cam footage to share soon.

March.20.2007

Okay, I am going to try my best to post regular updates so you - the viewers have something better to look at; rather than my ugly mug!

Not much to post regarding racing, as the first official Canadian races do not kick off for another month or so.  However, every other race series around the world has officially started!  I am getting very anxious to start the season, especially after following the opening rounds of the W.E.C, GNCC, OMA, and AMA Enduro series.

I want to give a shout out to the Rocky Mountain Dirt Riders Association  (http://www.rockymountaindirtriders.com).  For 2 months now, I have promised to attend their meetings (which I usually do anyway), and provide an overview of my New Zealand I.S.D.E. experience.  Unfortunately, I have had conflicting engagements each night and have not been able to attend.  Needless to say, I have marked the April 25th meeting on my calendar already and am fully committed to attending!

Received word that KTM Canada and Aldo / Stoneridge will once again sponsor the 2007 ISDE Trophy and Junior team.  KTM will provide for flight and hotel for the trophy team. Stoneridge will be paying freight for all trophy and junior team riders. In addition, Stoneridge will be providing all trophy and junior riders with $500 in spending money.  So, I guess money is no longer an excuse not to attend??  Take it from me; the Canadian contingent runs a first class operation when it comes to the ISDE.  The teams management, sponsors, and crew do an awesome job making this a worthwhile venture!

Remember, the 2007 ISDE will be held in La Serena, Chile during November.  Those interested must apply to the CMA prior to April 1, 2007.  Better get on it!!

 Until next time…

March.7.2007 ShaneCuthbertson.com is Launched!

Hey there everyone, welcome to my website!!

My buddy Mitch at MRSI totally hooked me up with this sweet website (also one of my main sponsors).  I have to admit that I thought about this a time or two, but had no idea how to make it a reality.  Once he was on board, the entire project was done in days – incredible!!

I believe the Canadian off-road scene is gaining momentum with the World Enduro Championship (WEC) coming for a second year, a new National Series premiering this year, and several top canucks earning respectable results at world class competitions.  I am pumped to be a part of it, and hoping that I can continue contributing to the “Canadian Invasion”.

I have an awesome program this year with incredible sponsors stepping up to provide the necessary resources.  Currently, I am in the process of finalizing the minor details and will soon turn my focus to setting up my KTM’s for the 2007 race season.

Check back often, as the site will be updated on a regular basis with exciting news and information.  We will have everything from photos of bikes, testing, and racing, to helmet cam footage, to regular updates of race results and news worthy subjects.

Till next time – BRAAAP!!
